Artist Turns Environmental Activism Into Unexpected Beauty
SAN FRANCISCO- Artist C. Finley will be wallpapering two dumpsters outside of the Phoenix Hotel in the Tenderloin district on May 18th, 2011 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM in conjunction with ArtPadSF art fair. This is the debut showing of her work in San Francisco.
The Wallpapered Dumpster Project is an inquiry into urban waste, free art, and notions of femininity, beauty and domesticity. Inspired by free and accessible art, this ongoing series of urban interventions which transform environmental activism into unexpected beauty, will continue in select cities in America and Europe through 2011. Previous dumpsters have appeared in Rome and around Los Angeles and have remained wallpapered for up to a year, depending on use and environmental factors.
“If we see dumpsters as works of art, we have raised consciousness,” said Finley.
