After honing his craft in his hometown of Sydney, with two records on esteemed Australiian label Modular (home to the likes of Tame Impala, Cut Copy, The Presets & many more), Jonathan Boulet decided it was time for a fresh start. In early 2013, he upped sticks, relocated to Europe, found himself a new band and soon followed the beginnings of ‘Gubba’, marking a new, fresh, gritty punk sound.
Entirely self-produced, this direct & uncompromising record bludgeons like a doom record sped up to garage-punk tempos. For fans of The Melvins, Les Savy Fav, Jesus Lizard and anyone who likes their music riffy, catchy and with a thick, scummy outer layer. Gubba is fast, heavy & direct. Gubba is not angry, but likes to have fun.
“The racket Boulet coaxes from his instrument is impeccable in tone and thickness, and his self-production shines too.” NME
