“Queer Japan” | Gay Manga Master Gengoroh Tagame Discusses the Use of Erotica & BDSM in His Work

In this excerpt, gay manga master Gengoroh Tagame discusses the use of erotica and BDSM in his work, touring North American, visiting the Tom of Finland Foundation, and writing his first all-ages manga, “My Brother’s Husband.”

This clip is just one piece of a kaleidoscopic feature film that delves into the lives, careers, and passions of dozens of LGBTQ+ individuals in Japan. Our goal with Queer Japan is to amplify the voices of people from across the spectrum of gender and sexuality, bringing crucial stories to the screen that are rarely heard in Japan or abroad.
