Outrageous Tub Interview with Cartoonist Justin Hall: “No straight Lines: Four Decades of Queer Comics” Videos

In our most outrageous interview yet, that also ends in the bathtub, we have an intimate chat with the 6’2″ hunky cartoonist Justin Hall about his past endeavors and his exciting new project No Straight Lines: Four Decades of Queer Comics that will be hitting the shelves any day now!

Justin hall is an award-winning cartoonist best known for True Travel Tales, Hard To Swallow, and Glamazonia. His work has appeared in publications such as the Best American Comics, the Book of Boy Trouble, and the S.F. Bay Guardian, as well as in shows at the S.F. Cartoon Art Museum. He is on the board of Prism Comics and teaches comics at the California College of the Arts.

Queer cartooning encompasses some of the best comics of the last four decades, with humor, and imagination. Until recently, queer cartooning existed in a parallel universe to the rest of comics, appearing only in gay newspapers and gay bookstores, not in comic book stores, mainstream bookstores or newspapers. The insular nature of the world of queer cartooning, however, created a fascinating scene, with an aesthetic forged from underground comix, gay erotic art, punk zines, and the biting commentaries of drag queens, bull dykes, and other marginalized queers. LGBT comics have been an uncensored, internal conversation within the queer community, and thus provide a unique window into the hopes, fears, and fantasies of queer people of the last four decades. No Straight Lines: Four Decades of Queer Comics celebrates this vibrant artistic underground by gathering together a collection of excellent stories that can be enjoyed by all.
