Our Favorite Top 5 Albums of 2017 from Diet Cig, Ho99o9, Sleaford Mods, The Drums, & Beth Ditto

It’s nearly impossible to choose my top albums of the year with so much new music being pumped out each year. I choose these 5 albums from the simple fact that after listening to them through for the first time, they continued on repeat for the remainder of the year. In no particular order my tops 5 albums this year came from; Diet Cig, Ho99o9, Sleaford Mods, The Drums, & Beth Ditto

Diet Cig – “I Swear I’m Good at This”

Stereogum named Diet CigBand To Watch based “on the charms of their Over Easy EP, and they’re finally releasing their debut LP next week. We’ve heard three early singles from it — “Tummy Ache,” “Barf Day,” and “Link In Bio” — and today the whole thing is streaming in full, and it packages Alex Luciano’s firecracker energy and Noah Bowman’s calculating drumming into 12 smooth pop-punk riffers.”

Ho99o9 – “United States of Horror”

“This record was made to be listened to loud as fuck and only can truly be enjoyed while playing loud as fuck,” the group explains. “If you are not playing this at its highest volume you are wasting your time. Moreover, if you are to listen to the record while not playing loud as fuck…..fuck you!  It will be like reading a 3D comic without 3D glasses. Listener be warned!”

Beth Ditto – “Fake Sugar”

“Former Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto has announced her debut solo album. It’s titled Fake Sugar and it’s out June 16 via Virgin Records. Earlier today, Ditto appeared on Mistajam’s BBC Radio 1 show to premiere the album’s first single, “Fire.” The album was produced primarily by Jennifer Decilveo, who Ditto described as “the rollerblades to my roller skates” in a press release. In a conversation with Pitchfork from last year, Ditto described Fake Sugar as, “my Southern record but not necessarily a country record.” Check out the tracklist for the new album below.” Pitchfork
