Gay pop artist Jonny has released his first music video for the pop anthem “Gay Canon.” With lyrics like “at the end of this song you will be gayer” and “I’ll say a prayer for you” – the Gay Canon confronts homophobia and bigotry in a gay anthem that is equal parts pride march and dance party.
Both thoughtful and humorous, the “Gay Canon” addresses those that fear that gayness might “rub off” on them. “I want the song to be an anthem for people wanting to claim and own who they are,” says Jonny.
The video is an aggressive, energetic introduction of Jonny, a new artist in the gay pop scene. It features distorted images of the performer dancing alone in a dark studio, at times confronting an image of himself in the mirror. It plays on the feminine and masculine aspects of homosexuality. Spliced in are images of gay leaders, adding a powerful visual message of the importance of the gay movement at this time in history.
