Kyle Motsinger shares his new music video today called “Midwest Boy.” Check it out below. Kyle wrote this about the song, “I wrote Midwest Boy as a way of standing my ground against the pressures of living in a city of over 8.5 million people. Coming from a town of just 500 isn’t something that holds me back. It makes me strong.”
Kyle Motsinger is a New York Singer/Songwriter originally from Central Illinois. He first discovered his love of performing as a boy in his community theatre’s production of Charlotte’s Web. He continued performing in theatre productions through the late 90’s and on and his parents eventually bought him a digital keyboard to play. He took lessons but really enjoyed playing by ear and composing little melodies and songs. As college came, he enrolled in Western Illinois University to study musical theatre. He continued to write little musical theatre and cabaret-style songs on the side and brought his old keyboard with him to NYC after he graduated. He initially moved to the city to work in theatre and he originated the role of Lionel in “Fancy Nancy the Musical” at Off-Broadway’s Vital Theatre Company. His performance is preserved on the Original Off-Broadway Cast Recording with Ghostlight Records.
Kyle switched gears and started writing pop/rock songs with a theatrical flair. He felt inspired by a mix of musical theatre and artists like Tori Amos, Ben Folds, Billy Joel, Kate Bush, and many other pop/rock/alternative artists he loved to listen to. In May of 2015 he performed an hour of his original music at The Duplex Cabaret Theatre, the famed New York performance venue. As he finished his final song of the night, he knew that was the path he needed to follow. He followed that with performances at venues such as “The Bitter End” and “Leftfield on Ludlow.” In September of 2015 he started recording his debut album, “Far Away” and finished production in December of 2016.
“Midwest Boy” is the debut single from NYC Singer/Songwriter Kyle Motsinger. His debut LP, “Far Away,” will be released on June 2nd, 2017!
The music video was shot in New York by Tyler William Milliron of Milliron Studios. The song was self produced and recorded in New York at Estate Sound, The Bunker, and Alligator Lady Studio. It was mixed by Ryan Howe of Mozart Street Studio and mastered in New Orleans by Jack Miele.
