Drag Race Winner Violet Chachki Reveals All In ‘KISS & TELL’
Nationwide Burlesque Tour Launching November 5 In NYC
Violet Chachki, the reigning queen of RuPaul’s Drag Race, is taking her love of burlesque on the road this fall in Kiss & Tell, her new nationwide tour presented by Live Nation and Producer Entertainment Group. An accomplished aerialist, Violet has become known for her sophisticated and thrilling performances that blend strip tease and fetish with acrobatics. In Kiss & Tell, she combines her talents with many of the traditional elements of burlesque: from classic to fetish, circus, vaudeville and sideshow, set to a soundtrack spanning from brassy 1950s to contemporary pop. In addition, Violet will be supported by a cast of awe-inspiring performance artists. Tickets for all Violet Chachki’s Kiss & Tell shows go on sale Friday, October 2nd. Pre-sale tickets are available now here.
“Burlesque is enjoying a resurgence,” declares Violet Chachki. “It’s mainstream. It’s everywhere.”
She’s right. Burlesque, the adult counterpart to vaudeville that incorporates a variety of short acts like slapstick, song-and-dance routines, juggling, ribald comedy, and most notoriously, striptease, has awoken from a long period of dormancy. Once relegated to seedy, underground bars, the art form has taken the world by storm, appealing to a wider audience of fans that eschew big stadium performances, preferring a more intimate theatrical experience.
“The inherent intimacy is why I named the show Kiss & Tell,” she explains. “I wanted my burlesque show to be especially provocative and proud. The featured artists – many of whom are gay – and I are owning our queerness and we are telling all. There are no secrets here!”
Fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race have delighted in watching Violet Chachki’s evolution as an artist. After taking the season seven crown, she released GAGGED, her five-track EP of hard-pounding, dynamic club tracks. The album drew inspiration from Violet’s love of fetish and her real life experience working in dungeons. Songs like “Bettie” and “Vanguard” address gender roles and conformity, power play, exhibitionism, sex and confidence.
Violet cites idols Bettie Page, Lady Miss Kier, Dovima, Thierry Mugler, and Pierre Molinier as role models and sources of creative inspiration.
“Costumes are my favorite part!” she continues. “I’ve enlisted the help of my friend Anthony Canney from the House of Canney, the genius behind my Drag Race coronation gown. I designed all the costumes with him and I promise, they will not disappoint!”
In addition to her live shows and musical releases, Violet Chachki has an online store at Shop.VioletChachki.com. The store sells playtime products with an adult twist, including her signature jawbreaker candy ball gag and a book of couture paper dolls, featuring Violet’s favorite runway looks from season 7 of RuPaul’s Drag Race, illustrated by artist Donny Meloche. Violet is a native of Atlanta, Georgia.
