Doing Oakland Proud! Younger Lovers “Ballad of Two Stubborn Men”: New LP Out in December

Doing Oakland proud!

Younger Lovers is the recording project of Brontez Purnell, a Bay Area songwriter who previously served alongside Seth Bogart (Hunx) in Gravy Train!!!. His band’s next LP is out December 10 via Southpaw. “Ballad of Two Stubborn Men” is just shy of two minutes long, and it doesn’t waste a moment of its run time on things like guitar solos or breathing. Purnell sings straight through the Del Shannon-style melody for the song’s entire two minutes. Considering it’s a song about a potential breakup, there’s something fittingly insistent about his pace. “If you let me down, let me down easy,” he sings, and what’s more, “If you let me down, let me down right now.” ” Pitchfork
