The King of Selfies’ portraits are up for grab as Andy Warhol’s drag Polaroids are heading for an online auction.
Warhol’s Polaroid collection includes two sets of selfies of the artists, one of which features a collection where he is dressed as drag with various wigs and makeup. It also includes close-up celebrity portraits of Liza Minnelli, Diana Ross and Mick Jagger’s ex-wives Jerry Hall and Bianca Jagger.
The Polaroid collection is a part of Sotheby’s Contemporary Art Day Auction that is hosted on eBay today. The real-time bidding auction will also feature works by artists as Jeff Koons and Keith Haring.
The set of Warhol’s drag selfies are estimated to go for between $70,000 and $90,000 while the set of his 12 self-portraits are expected to go between $250,000 and $350,000. The four celebrity portraits are expected to bring in between $40,000 and $60,000.
As Pret-a-reporter notes, Warhol’s selfies are a bit pricier than the Kim Kardashian’s book Selfish (sale price: £12), but as Warhol said himself: “If you want to know about Andy Warhol, then just look at the surface of my pictures, my movies and me and there I am; there’s nothing in between.”
Bidding begins at 2.30pm on eBay here.
