3 Gay Men in Drag Attacked on Halloween in Portland Fight Back With High Heel

KATU reports:

PORTLAND, Ore. – Three gay men who dressed up in drag on Halloween night say they were beaten up, punched, yelled at and dragged by their hair by a group of people who didn’t like what they saw.

It all happened around 2 a.m. along the waterfront in downtown Portland. The men – Dustin Miller, Joey Malone and Curtis Hughes – say they heard some familiar slurs from a group of about five people and then things turned violent.

“I was on the ground and they reached over and punched him in the face.”

“All I saw was blood all over his mouth.”

“I was in shock. I felt my tooth go into my tongue and I spit it out onto the ground.”

“All I remember is hearing somebody yell there was a knife.”

“He swung it at my stomach and then swung it back up at my face.”

One of the men kicked off his heels and used them as weapons to try to defend himself. The men say between the high heels and a cyclist passing by, the attackers got spooked enough to run off. But the three were left bleeding, banged up and wondering what had just happened.

They admit their costumes were provocative and some people might have been offended, but said they didn’t expect to get beat up over it. They did file a police report, but know there is a slim chance the attackers will be caught.

However, hundreds of people have come forward to offer their support. One of the men, for example, ended up with a busted tooth and donations have been coming in to help him get some dental work. A dentist already donated her time and services for a temporary fix.
